The last day of summer is less than a week away and I'm longing to go back to June and do it all over again because summer is my favorite season. What's not to like? Plants and flowers are in full bloom, the grass is green, the trees are lush, and the weather is warm with abundant sunshine. Aaahhhh…I feel more relaxed just saying the words!
The lakes are warm, too – ready for swimming, paddle boarding, and “fishing.”
I write fishing with quotes because I don’t go fishing to catch fish. I only go fishing with my grandpa John because I love hearing his stories.
Stories are what make up our lives and they engage our brains. Like most people, I love to hear stories, but also to read stories and tell stories. However, I'm not so good at this last part.
Now, don't get me wrong - I have a lot of stories to tell! But I lose people in the details.
Imagine you’re standing at the base of a tall tree. Looking up, you see alllll the branches… that’s how I liken my storytelling ability. There’s a main point, and I’ll get there eventually, but there are a lot details along the way!
I joke that by the time I get to the top of the tree, I’m the only one excited and still engaged because all my listeners are stranded somewhere on a branch or have fallen to the ground. Ouch.
(Maybe this is why I prefer writing?! ;-) Haha)
I want to be a good storyteller, but even more so, I want to be a great conversationalist. So I've been learning how to ask questions that bring clarity, how to be patient and engaged while listening, and how to care deeply about what others are saying.
This is especially helpful as I work with clients in my coaching and personal training practice. One of the reasons I started my practice last summer (my favorite season, remember?), is because I've been given a deep drive to help others be the best possible version of themselves they can be.
I help my clients see their future selves more clearly and simplify their journey as they move forward, so they can focus more on what’s truly important – the people, the relationships, and the experiences this life offers – like fishing with our grandparents. :-)
I help people who are ready to transform their lives - inside and out.
